Holiday Gift Guides - Gift’s Worth Waiting For

This week’s article will highlight a few games that, while you can’t get right now, should be something you get as a gift arriving in 2022. In this article, we will feature some of our upcoming preorders for the store. From Fantasy Flight Games comes Lord of the Rings: Spreading War along with the hotly anticipated rereleases of the Lord of the Rings: The Card Game Revised Core Set and Arkham Horror: The Dunwich Legacy. From Plan B Games, we have Century: Golem Edition; from Eggertspiele, we have Coimbra; and from Libellud, we have Stella- Dixit Universe. So we have a lot to get into. Let’s get discussing.

The Lord of the Rings: Journey in Middle Earth – Spreading War

If you haven’t played the base game, it should be on your list to check out. We’ve even made a review of the base Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth Review. This game has adventure, story, and miniatures for both heroes and enemies. What’s more, it plays across multiple board types.

The new expansion comes with five new heroes and an array of enemies for you to fight, along with new journey map tiles and a brand new campaign to complete. Do you have what it takes to fend off the amassing hordes and survive your way through Middle Earth?

The Lord of the Rings LCG: Revised Core Set

Lord of the Rings is getting the same treatment. Coming later on this January, The Lord of the Rings LCG: Revised Core Set gives you all the thrills of the original with updated artwork and organization, making it super easy to get started. Also, this includes enough cards for four players! The original only came with enough for two… so this is a significant improvement.

Start your adventure into The Lord of the Rings LCG with this great set, and maybe you’ll take on Golem, or the Mines of Moria, or even the Eye of Sauron. There’s so much to explore with this new core set that is entirely compatible with all previously released expansions.

Arkham Horror: The Card Game – The Dunwich Legacy

As mentioned with the previous game, we see Fantasy Flight Games rereleasing previous Campaigns and Investigators. The Dunwich Legacy is the first of the earlier campaigns released in this new format!
In the old format, you would buy the Dunwich Legacy Deluxe box, which got you a bunch of investigators, player cards, and the first couple scenarios. Then, Fantasy Flight Games would ask you to purchase new scenarios to complete the campaign.

Now you buy either/both the Investigator expansion, which gets you all the investigators and their player cards. The campaign expansion brings you all scenarios for the campaign.
Use the Investigator expansion with your core set or any other set you have. Just get the campaign expansion if you don’t want the investigators and only want the story! It’s a win-win!

Century: Golem Edition

While this game came out a few years ago, it’s new to Asmodee and new to us. Arriving later this January, this game is a retheme of the very popular Century:Spice Road. In this game, you are establishing trade routes, harvesting crystals and gaining victory points all set in the wonderful world of Caravania. We’re looking forward to doing this game out later next month!

Stella – Dixit Universe

When we saw the name of this next entry into the Dixit Universe, all we could think of was “Streetcar named Desire” — ok, maybe not the first thing that comes to many people’s heads, but it’s what came to ours. Anyways… Stella is a competitive game of Dixit. Unlike Dixit, where you were creating connections with a storyteller’s story and then trying to guess which card was theirs. In Stella, each player sees the standard Dixitcards and tries to pick cards from their hand. If you choose the same cards as other players, you score more points. If you pick something random, you’ll lose points!
Stella is a great Family game and one we are looking forward to playing!

Coimbra

Another game in the “new to Asmodee, new to us” category, Coimbra, is dice-driven and has you earning prestige in 15th and 15th century Portugal. The decisions you make in the game are different based on the dice you roll. Do you keep the citizens happy, or the church or neither and go off on expeditions for your country?
This super engaging game is coming to the store in the next month!

These are just a few of the games we believe are “Worth waiting for”. Keep checking our store as we add new games every week.
